CPA Québec, also known as the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec, is a professional organization responsible for regulating the accounting profession in the province of Québec, Canada. It was established to oversee the practice of chartered professional accountants (CPAs) in the region, ensuring that members adhere to high standards of professionalism, ethics, and competency.
The organization was formed as a result of the unification of the three legacy accounting designations in Canada: Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and Certified General Accountant (CGA), which took effect on May 16, 2012. This unification aimed to provide a single, strong voice for the accounting profession and to simplify the certification process for accountants in Canada.
CPA Québec plays a crucial role in the professional development of its members by offering a wide range of continuing education opportunities and resources. It also provides guidance and support in terms of regulatory compliance, professional conduct, and ethical standards. Members of CPA Québec are required to complete ongoing professional development activities to maintain their certification and stay current with the latest industry practices and regulations.
In addition to its regulatory and educational functions, CPA Québec actively engages in advocacy efforts to represent the interests of its members and the accounting profession at large, both within Québec and in broader national and international contexts. This includes participating in policy discussions and contributing to the development of accounting standards and best practices.
